Origanum vulgare

Oregano, also known as Wild Marjoram, closely resembles its cousin Marjoram (Majorana hortensis) but is more intense like its other close relation Thyme (Thymus zygis), so is more safely used in highly diluted formulas. Primary action is on gut welfare, protecting, purifying and calming. Use in abdominal massage or judiciously internally. Add to a hand wash to disinfect. Diffuse to protect from airborne impurities. Clears breathing passages and protects from contagion. Hastens removal of body fat. Warming and comforting for complaining joints.

Aroma: Middle Note.

Perfume: Hot, herbaceous and slightly spicy with woody undertones.

Blends well with: basil, fennel, geranium, lemongrass, pine, thyme, rosemary, cedarwood, citronella, lavender.

Indications: Antiseptic, analgesic, aperitif, anti-fungal, carminative, antiviral, anti-toxic, sedative, expectorant, analgesic, counter-irritant, expectorant, laxative, parasiticide, rubefacient, (brings blood to surface) vulnerary (heals wounds).

Part of plant used: aerial parts

Type of extraction: steam distilled

Origin of Raw Material: Mediterranean, Country of Manufacture: France

Precautions: Oregano is a very potent oil that is likely to irritate the mucous membranes, so use very well diluted. Avoid during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
