Cymbopogon flexuosus

Most are familiar with lemongrass as an Asian food staple, or as a potted plant to ward off insects on the patio and the essential oil is just as useful. Lemongrass is less volatile than lemon and does not oxidise as quickly, so is often preferred in preparations desiring a lemon note that need a longer shelf life. Stengthens and nurtures nervy types - allaying stress. Assuages tension in body rubs and settles upsets. Rehabilitating for stressed individuals. Tinderbox supplies the less common East Indian variety of lemongrass essential oil.

Aroma: Top Note

Perfume: Strong, sweet and lemony.

Blends well with: neroli, rosemary, basil, cedarwood, coriander, geranium, jasmine, lavender and tea tree.

Indications: analgesic (quells pain), anti-depressant, antimicrobial and antiseptic (kills infection), antipyretic and febrifuge (reduces fever), astringent, carminative, deodorant, diuretic, fungicidal, galactagogue (increases breast milk), insecticidal, nervine, sedative and tonic.

Part of plant used: leaves

Type of extraction: steam distilled

Origin of Raw Material: India, Country of Manufacture: France

Precautions: Can irritate sensitive skin, so care should be taken. Considered safe to use during pregnancy.
