Citrus Bergamia

Bergamot was first cultivated in its namesake, Italian town Bergamo, but the plant is native to South East Asia. This delicate citrus tree yields a fresh and uplifting essential oil that is widely used in perfumery. The near-ripe inedible fruit is cold-pressed for essential oil extraction.

Aroma: Top Note.

Perfume: Bergamot is the finest of the citrus oils, exuding both a fresh, lemony and orangey scent with warm and sweet floral notes. The colour ranges from green to greenish-yellow and the oil has a watery viscosity. It is also the Earl grey perfume in tea.

Blends well with: All the citruses, cypress, chamomile, geranium, jasmine, neroli, coriander, ylang-ylang, ginger, clary-sage, black pepper and juniper.

Indications (based on both empirical usage and scientific research of historical and modern times): Analgesic, antiseptic, antidepressant, antispasmodic, carminative, vulnerary (heals wounds), deodorant, digestive, febrifuge (reduces fever), sedative, stomachic, tonic, insecticide.

Part of plant used: fruit peel

Type of extraction: cold-pressed

Origin of Raw Material: Europe, Country of Processing: France

Tinderbox products starring bergamot essential oil: Serenity Blend, Blossom Perfumes, Blue Fire Perfumes, Wise Woman's Massage Oil, Ode to Orange Perfume, Aphrodisi products.

Precautions: Avoid using in strong sunlight as it increases photosensitivity, increasing the risks of burning. Always test a small amount first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. Considered safe for use during pregnancy.
